I have been practicing yoga on almost a daily basis for over 20 years, one of my initial reasons for starting yoga was chronic back and hip pain. Having previously worked in the world of television production I am familiar with stress and its detrimental effects on the body and mind.
I find teaching beginners particularly rewarding and inspiring – witnessing at first hand the transformative and often healing effect that yoga can have when students begin to tune in to their bodies and breath.
I teach Hatha yoga (with all sorts of other influences such as Scarivelli, Feldenkrais and the occasional sprinkling of pilates) – a gentle style that still delivers strength and flexibility in a safe manner and I incorporate pranayama (breathing exercises) into all my classes. Classes are light-hearted, fun and enjoyable.
I tailor classes towards the needs of our modern society. For instance for computer users, to try and neutralise some of the negative effects of office work such as releasing hunched neck/shoulders, releasing the spine, hips and hamstrings after long periods of sitting. Hopefully, after each class, you will feel relaxed, re-energised, de-stressed, calm and a little bit stronger and easier in your body! Come every week or just turn up to the occasional class.
I am well versed in the safety aspects of yoga and can provide modifications or alternatives to poses for anyone with injuries or medical conditions. I have public liability insurance and am a member of the British Wheel of Yoga
